Easter in Vienna
Depending on the duration of the pandemic, optimists might already think of springtime and with spring, easter comes. Usually, there are some nice Easter Markets and activities in Vienna.
Schönbrunn Easter Market
From 6 to 23 April 2019, the Easter Market at Schönbrunn Palace will be making you want to come to the Spring Festival with handicrafts, culinary delights and a children’s programme. In the Ehrenhof in front of the magnificent Baroque palace, 60 huts present their varied assortment: painted and decorated eggs in all variations, wood carvings, ceramics, jewellery, glass art and all kinds of practical items for the house and garden. A colourful egg-shell seating area invites you to relax, even the best culinary delights are provided. The little ones work in the Easter bunny workshop on marzipan figures or Easter arrangements. Every Sunday as well as on Holy Saturday and Easter Monday, jazz ensembles perform live on the square.
Old Viennese Easter Market at Freyung
The Old Viennese Easter Market on Freyung, one of the most beautiful historic squares in the Old Town, piles up Europe’s largest egg mountain every year with around 40,000 painted Easter eggs. From 5 to 22 April 2019 there will also be numerous culinary specialities such as Easter pinches or baked Easter lamb, an Easter craft workshop for the little ones, puppet shows and a rabbit stall.
Handicraft market Am Hof
The Easter market Am Hof is only a few minutes walk from the Freyung. From 5 to 22 April 2019, the exhibitors will be showing lots of art and crafts, Easter decorations and fine kitsch. The gastronomy stands offer apple strudel, roasted almonds or hearty bacon and are open daily until 9 pm. In the middle of the square, the Hof-Café invites you to take a relaxing break.
A local speciality is the Kalvarienbergfest in the 17th district. In the Easterly decorated Kalvarienberggasse, artists present their works. In addition to the arts and crafts stands, there is also a stage for performances and a varied children’s programme. In workshops many artistic techniques can be learned.
